Oil Palm Breeder

Main function

1. Work closely with other breeders in the Breeding Department under the supervision of the Principal Breeding Officer.

2. Manage designated aspects of Verdant’s Oil Palm breeding and multi-location programmes, including nursery and field trials (experimental design, planting, recording, etc.)

3. Perform phenotypic screening of material tested outside company

4. Perform genotypic screening in collaboration with the Plant Genomics

5. Verify the quality of data from trials prior to analyse trials (especially using Finlay and Wilkinson analysis) in association with statisticians

6. Following analysis to report the results in monthly and annual reports, interpret results reach conclusions and present data.

7. Propose new crossing schemes to achieve further breeding improvement.

8. Propose specific crosses for different environment based on trials result.

9. Be flexible for any additional ad-hoc breeding tasks as required

Requirements

· First degree (S1) in Agricultural/Biological.

· Understand how to analyse trials in different location (Genotype*Environment - GxE)

· Previous plant breeding/Oil Palm experience desirable but not essential.

· Fluency in English both speaking and writing.

· Demonstrated computer skills.

· Able to initiate work, work individually and in a team, lead team-work and work with teams from other departments (e.g., Breeding and Biotechnology) and have a good understanding of local people.

· Willing to travel on duty.
