Role Responsibility

We are looking for a proactive and motivated junior candidate to join our Data Access Services Operations (DASO) Engineering service team. This position will focus on monitoring and reporting of Data Services, coordination between engineering teams, and database and document management.

The DASO team are supporting the operations of our customers mission-specific and multi-mission dissemination systems, including the dissemination of meteorological and climate products from their operational satellites.

In addition the near real time redistribution of meteorological data and products available from other satellite operators from Europe, the US, India, China,  Japan, etc. are equally as critical for safeguarding life and property, and supporting the European economy. 

By configuring and operating data flows within the Multi Mission Dissemination Systems and utilising the various methods of dissemination available, for example EUMETCast Satellite data multicasting services with footprints over Europe and Africa, EUMETCast Terrestrial data multicasting services, VPN's, internet and WMO resources DASO are a key team component contributing to the humanitarian and economical needs of many nations.

The candidate will be primarily be coordinating with the Additional Data Services (ADS) team, i.e. Data Collection Services, EUMETSAT Advanced Retransmission Service, Satellite Application Facilities. Scheduling, planning and reporting.

The main activities will focus on:

  • Operational Interface Control Documents (OICDs), Knowledge Base & other documentation for DASO, in particular relating to Third Party Data Services;
  • Coordinating engineering changes, validation test reports and the compiling of information for technical budgeting & implementation with other teams, in particular the Additional Data Services (ADS) and Mission Performance and Monitoring (MPM) teams;
  • Populate and maintain a database;
  • Coordinate the Product Operational Readiness Check process;
  • Improving daily reporting checks for the EUMETSAT Advanced Retransmission Service (EARS) to ensure the status required for the daily and other routine reporting can be completed within a reasonable time frame.

Successful Candidate

Do you think you are the person we are looking for? See below what experience or knowledge you should bring:

The candidate should have at least 2 years' experience in operations, Data Services, software maintenance or database management, ideally within a Space or Earth Observation environment, as well as proven experience in collaboration and working with teams.

The position is ideal for a proactive candidate who is able to manage their work independently and with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate must have effective communication skills and should be able to interact fully with other teams and specialists to find solutions. Previous experience with EUMETSAT services would be considered a distinct advantage. The working language is English therefore strong English language skills are essential.

Serco provides the User Helpdesk and Data Centre Operations Service of the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), which plays a key role in enhancing the use of EUMETSAT data, products and Data Services.

The main objective of the service is to ensure effective and user-driven service to support the provision of data, both real-time and offline, as well as to provide comprehensive technical information to support all forms of user enquiries relating both to current operational services and to future satellite programmes of EUMETSAT.
