Job Summary: UPL is looking for a Regional Regulatory Head for North America, to oversee all regulatory activities related to the registration, and compliance of crop protection products within the United States and Canada. The role involves ensuring that all products meet the regulatory requirements set forth by government agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the United States, Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in agriculture, an understanding of the Crop Protection market, and proven experience of successful regulatory approvals and compliance management within United States and Canada.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Regulatory Strategy Development: Develop and implement regulatory strategies aligned with business objectives and regulatory frameworks for United States and Canada. They analyze country regulations, guidelines, and policies related to the products and identify potential opportunities and challenges.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that all crop protection products meet regulatory requirements set forth by agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the United States and Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) in Canada.
  • Internal Stakeholder Connect and Engagement: Work in collaboration with internal business and functional stakeholders, such as Commercial, R&D, marketing, and supply chain teams, to align regulatory strategies and facilitate the required registrations. Engage with external stakeholders, including regulatory authorities, industry associations, and trade organizations, to fast-track regulations and represent the company's interests.
  • Regulatory Policy Management: Staying abreast of changes in regulatory policies, guidelines, and legislation related to crop protection products, and providing strategic guidance to ensure compliance with evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Regulatory Submissions and Approvals: In alignment with the business strategic priorities, work with local and global Regulatory functional teams to manage the preparation, submission, and maintenance of regulatory dossiers in the region/countries. Drive digital transformation in alignment with global strategy for the adoption of RegulatoryOne. Interact with regulatory authorities, respond to queries, provide additional data when required, and facilitate the review and approval process.
  • Regulatory Intelligence: Staying up to date with regulatory changes, guidelines, and emerging trends, monitor regulatory developments within the countries (U.S. & Canada) and assess their potential impact on product portfolio and pipeline , labelling, and other regulatory aspects.
  • Risk Management: Conduct risk assessments for our product portfolio to ensure their safety and effectiveness in compliance with regional regulations. Along with the functional experts in the region and at global level evaluate toxicology, ecotoxicology, residue studies, and other relevant data to assess potential risks.
  • Budgeting Management: Responsible for monitoring and adhering to company guidelines for producing individual sales targets, expenses, promotion, travel, and entertainment budgets.
  • Customer Engagement: To drive growth for the business from a regulatory standpoint, engage with the customers and collaborate with their teams on product lifecycle strategies.
  • Team Development: Provide guidance to internal and global teams regarding Regional Regulatory requirements, processes, and updates. Ensure that the teams are commercial focused and have a clear understanding of regulatory compliance and its implications. Develop a high-performance team and drive a culture of extreme ownership, accountability, meritocracy, and inclusiveness. Foster collaboration across regional and global teams with a clear understanding of holistic benefits to the local strategy implementation. Collaborate with HR on people development, performance management, culture, and engagement priorities.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture sciences/ biology/ chemistry or related disciplines. Master's or Ph.D. in regulatory affairs, agronomy, plant science, environmental science, or a related field will be preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and processes governing crop protection products in North America. This includes knowledge of regulations set forth by agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the United States, Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA).
  • Strong understanding of the US agricultural landscape and the Crop Protection market.
  • Proven track record of successful regulatory approvals and compliance management within United States and Canada.
  • Proven success in leadership roles in Regulatory, Research and Development in a large, matrixed organization.
  • Proven success in using the Regulatory functional knowledge to deliver on the business growth objectives by engaging with business leaders and customers.
  • Strong organizational skills and problem solving is required to enhance the efficiency of the teams.
  • Ability to respond to changing priorities and high degree of flexibility.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with peers, customers, and management in a dynamic environment.

TRAVEL: Ability to travel up to 25% of the time to meet with Regulators, internal business meetings at UPL locations within U.S., Canada or internationally.
