Job Description
The primary role of the Tunnel General Foreman is to ensure that the project progresses according to plan and is completed according to company standards. The Tunnel General Foreman administers, directs and coordinates the functions of the project and personnel.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- The prime focus of this position is the transfer of knowledge [and new technology] and assisting in the development of all National employees within the department on a day-to-day basis. This will involve working directly with the employees on reviewing or providing suggestions, recommendations, positive feedback or alternative strategies for consideration on their assigned tasks
- Review the Supervisor Log Book and discuss with the cross-shift General Foreman before he leaves the site
- Plan tasks for the shift in conjunction with the Superintendent, and when necessary licensing or training and maintenance personnel
- Allocate machinery, work areas and tasks to shift employees
- Direction and supervision of workers employed in your project area
- Complete shift reports and review timesheets and ensure 100% ATA compliance
- Meet with Foreman and Shifter to review the days projects
- Write out the Daily Shift report and have it signed off by all the Supervisors and enter it into the Log Book for review by next shift
- Ensure that the safety program and all safety procedures are adhered to
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Advanced School diploma or 10 years-experience in tunnel development and training of work forces within an underground environment.
- Supervisory certification with training in the following specialties; tunnel supervision, development, haulage, drilling and blasting
- 15 years of various mechanized trackless tunneling experience
- Exceptional planning and organizing abilities
- Ability to work under time constraints and adhere to deadlines
