Background of the Assignment
The Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Promoting Rural Incomes throughSupport for Markets in Agriculture (PRISMA) is a multi-year development programinitiated by the Government of Australia through DFAT and the Government ofIndonesia through BAPPENAS, aiming at fostering systemic changes inagricultural markets.
PRISMA adopts a market systems development approach bypartnering with key stakeholders to improve agricultural market efficiency andsustainably benefit the poor.
Agriculture is dependent on the environment, but it can also impact theenvironment if not done correctly. The rural poor, who are beneficiaries ofPRISMA's program, heavily rely on environmentally sensitive resources for theirlivelihood, which can be negatively impacted by agricultural activities andwider environmental changes.
PRISMA is committed to helping partners navigatethe impact of climate change on agriculture, particularly in the beef and dairysectors, by offering them the required knowledge, tools and lessons learned.
PRISMA's partners, AgCoTech and Medion, have introduced innovativetechnologies to mitigate climate change in the livestock sectors.
PRISMAassisted AgCoTech in conducting trials for GHG Emissions Control Blocks inIndonesia. The trials proved that these products could reduce cattle emissionswhile improving cattle health and productivity, leading to increased income forfarmers.
Additionally, PRISMA helped Medion trial Closed-Housed Pen tech, whichimproves feed efficiency, reduces heat stress for cows, and boosts productivityand income.
These solutions present a dual benefit of promoting environmentalsustainability and creating business opportunities for private sectors andfarmers.
PRISMA plans to share knowledge and lessons learned from climate-smartlivestock initiatives with public and private institutions in Indonesia topromote adoption.
To achieve this, PRISMA will gather knowledge and lessonslearned from its initiatives, package them, and communicate them to widerpublic and private institutions.
Purpose of the Assignment
Theobjective of the assignment is to gather and scrutinize data and information relatedto GHG Emissions Control Blocks and Closed-House Pen technology initiatives.
Then, produce a high-quality Market Brief and disseminate it to specific publicand private institutions through events and channels organized by PRISMA.
TheMarket Brief will cover the following key points, among others :
- An analysis of the impact of climate change on the livestock sector : trends, challenges, opportunities, and government policies and private initiatives to address the issue.
- A description of the innovations (HGH ECB and Closed-House Pen Technology), and the results from the trials, such as emission reduction, productivity, and farmers' profitability, etc.
- Lessons learned from the trials, including what worked and what didn't work.
- Provide recommendations for private sector, government, and universities / research firms to adapt.
Roles and Responsibilities
The selected candidate must perform the following responsibilitieswithin the timeframe :
- gather data and information on GHG Emissions Control Blocks and Closed-House Pen technology trials from AgCoTwech and Medion and analyze trial reports and data as needed.
- validate the data by conducting interviews with AgCoTech, Medion, dairy cooperatives, and lead farmers involved in the trials.
Triangulate the information gathered.
- compile, aggregate, and analyze all information and data to develop a Market Brief report.
- develop the structure / outline and obtain approval from PRISMA for the Market Brief.
- produce a concise Market Brief report of maximum 10 pages and obtain PRISMA's approval before dissemination.
- in collaborating with AgCoTech and Medion, disseminate the Market Brief report to targeted audiences / organizations through various events and channels organized by PRISMA.
- undertake additional tasks as requested by PRISMA to ensure the quality of the assingment’s results.
Key Selection Criteria
The candidate should ideally have :
- a master’s degree in the field of agricultural / livestock business management, strategic marketing, economics, or an MBA with knowledge of climate change and environment agriculture is a plus.
- proven expertise in writing Market Brief reports with strong language, grammar, and style. Experience in livestock or agriculture preferred.
- the ability to conduct effective discussion to analyze provided information and data sets, and to distill key insights that are relevant to the beef and dairy markets.
- demonstrating a high level of analytical rigor and critical thinking, and ability to analyze complex information and produce clear, structured narratives.
- understanding the impact of climate change on agriculture, especially beef and dairy industries, is crucial.
- an experience or expertise in agricultural economics, food systems, sustainability, or related fields, with a focus on the beef and dairy sectors would be a plus.
- possessing excellent communication and presentation skills is crucial for effectively communicating with high-level audiences from both public and private institutions as well as development agencies.
- proven track record of delivering high-quality work within established timelines.
Functional Relationship
The selected candidate will regularly communicateand report assignment milestones to the PICs from PRISMA.
Indicative Timeline
The work must be completed within the timeframe, from March 8 June 30,. The term of the Writer’s payment will be based on the outputs describedin Section 7 below.
The writer must hand in the required deliverable and its supportingdocumentation with high-quality to PRISMA.
