Background
Save the Children Indonesia (SC IDN) gained the status as an Associate Member Country in November 2019. In 2021, SC IDN’s Board of Patron has approved the transformation towards a Diversified Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) business model. The Transform Hub has been set up in May 2023 to navigate and facilitate the overall transformation, which consists of two pathways: (a) the main transformation workplan (b) the innovation sandbox, that leads to achieve SCIDN goals for children by 2030. We are looking for a consultancy role of Innovation Specialist to support SCIDN in achieving the transformation goals.
Objectives
The External Collaborator (EC) will report to the Head of Transform Hub and will work closely with other Transform Hub team members and across department in SCIDN especially those included in Transformation Workstream members. The EC is expected to support the implementation, progress monitoring, and evaluation of the Innovation Sandbox.
The Innovation Sandbox is developed as a platform to explore, develop, and test fit-for-purpose models indelivering impact, achieve financial sustainability, and strengthen the operational capabilities/support function (including digital/data/technology) to support the future financial growth and replication of impacts delivered by SCIDN. Within the Innovation Sandbox, the EC is expected to support the facilitation of exploration and experimentation of future impact & revenue modelsof SCIDN, together with the Head of Transform Hub and Workstream Leads/Co-Leads. S/he will be involved in formulating innovative initiatives into a solid/tested model before moving into the main transformation pathway.
Scope of Work
The EC will be expected to deliver day-to-day responsibilities as follows:
- Act as the lead facilitatorin the Innovation Sandbox Pathway, ensuring alignment of its goals & targets with the main transformation goals and ensuring smooth process of its overall implementation.
- Lead the development & refinement of innovation framework/playbook/guidelines to allow systematic exploration and experimentation of innovative models for the Innovation Sandbox
- Lead the identification of existing tools and/or the development of new tools for the Innovation Sandbox
- Support the Transform Hub team in developing & refiningstrategy for the Innovation Pathway
- Lead the identification of existing innovative models from SC International or other NGOs relevant and look for opportunities for learnings and alignment.
- Lead the assessment of existing models used internally within SCIDN, identify gaps, and propose recommendation on the way forward.
- Facilitate the Workstream Leads/Co-Leads, specifically within Impact & Revenue Model Workstreams, in
- Setting targets and objectives
- Designing the concept
- Developing hypotheses and plans/timeline for testing & experimentation
- Identifying innovation procedures, methods, and tools required
- Setting decision checkpoints, to decide whether to continue, drop, or pivot the models being tested.
- Developing plans to document results and disseminate learnings to wider SCIDN teams.
- Lead the preparation for scaling up and transition of the innovations to the Main Transformation Pathway
- Actively involved in the discussion and coordination with other Transform Hub team members, including supporting other Transformation agenda and activities whenever required, including but not limited to facilitating meetings, workshops, preparing pitch-decks, talking points, and executive summary documents
- Other tasks as necessary and agreed beforehand with the Supervisor and the organization.
Deliverables
Deliverables are submitted monthly, along with the record of monthly activities, to be reviewed and approved by the supervisor and organization. Deliverables may include but not limited to the following:
- Innovation framework/playbook/guidelines for Innovation Sandbox
- Existing innovation tools and/or the development of new tools for the Innovation Sandbox
- Assessment of existing models, gaps, and recommendation for way forward
- Detailed experiment/piloting for Impact Model and Revenue Model
- Detailed scaling up planseCVHTFT BlOQwg
- Other deliverables as required by the supervisor and the organization.
Qualifications
Essential:
- A degree in relevant study, master's degree is preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in program development, innovation, as wells as innovative financing in non-profit or private sector, working in international organization is preferred.
- A solid understanding of innovation and how it should be applied to solve social challenges.
- An understanding of concepts such as theory of change, design thinking, scientific method, action research, or impact measurements
- Adaptive thinking and a strong critical mindset, business acumen, and presentation skills
- Proficient at project planning, budgeting, and project oversight
- Forward-thinking and adaptable to dynamic situations, with the ability to work on tight deadlines.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills, both in Indonesia and in English
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and as a team member.
- Self-motivated and highly flexible individual who can manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Competency in Microsoft 365 applications
Desirable:
- Previous experience as a startup founder or working in an incubator/accelerator.
- Previous experience in other child-focused organization in non-profit sector
- Understanding of emerging digital technology such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), blockchain, and sustainable technology
- Competency in quantitative or qualitative research
