Who we are
Munti Batik works with people from the dry and remote region of Muntigunung in North-East Bali, to create quality natural-dye batik textiles. We are a small-scale eco-friendly practice, using only plant dyes to color our fabrics and all wax relief motifs are painted or drawn by hand.

Our production team is made up of a diverse, mainly female staff with team members ranging from 30 years to 85. We are currently in a stage of transition, preparing to launch as a small business in 2025. We are seeking a new PROJECT MANAGER to coordinate the production of our new collection and lead the team through this next phase of growth in rural Muntigunung. Progression possibilities are available within the role for the right candidate.
Who you’ll be working with and what you’ll be doing
You will work closely with the Strategic Manager, Sales Manager and the Munti BATIK PRODUCTION team to coordinate and lead the production of the program’s products. You will be key in strengthening our team, and creating opportunities for learning and growth within the program.
What does a day on the job look like?
You might start your week planning activities for your team before driving to Muntigunung early in the working week. Once onsite you may take a 15-minute motorbike ride from the studio to meet with your batik team in the hilly region of Pendem, then back to the studio to check progress of the dye team and update the production plan for the upcoming month.
About you
You are a mature, self-motivated manager with experience in community development and/or small to medium scale fashion or textile production. You are looking to apply your great problem solving and leadership skills in a meaningful role in Bali. Communication comes naturally to you and you are confident in communicating and developing the skills of a diverse team. You are culturally sensitive and flexible to schedule around the Balinese ceremonies. You take a team approach to problem solving and discuss challenges with your team coordinator and strategist where needed. Above all, you’re open to learning and are excited to contribute to the community and work with natural dye-batik.
Core responsibilities
- Coordinate and lead a team of 20 staff in natural dye BATIK PRODUCTION across 2 locations in Muntigunung (fabric and dye sourcing, cutting, batik canting, dyeing, quality control, packing, stock).
- Assess potential for improvement and growth within the production team, and create training plans as needed.
- Build a stable team to fulfill work according to production plans, and foster a strong sense of teamwork across all departments.
- Create production plans with accurate lead time and aligned with the program’s sales targets.
- Work with the sales and strategic advisor to grow the program’s capacity as a business.
- Maintain and update effective quality control systems.
- Assess the feasibility of product designs based on production capacity.
- Fulfill custom orders and help establish a records system for this.
- Create accurate product costings using templates provided.
- Production administration (progress reporting, monthly team meeting, budgeting, inventory management).
Essential skills and experience
- Strong leadership skills, able to work to goals and meet deadlines independently and as a team, and solution oriented.
- Self-disciplined and able to prioritise and organise work schedule independently.
- Experienced in and motivated to work in community development
- Great communication skills, able to talk with people at different levels from production staff, guests visiting the project to co-managers and program coordinators.
- Excellent spoken and written Bahasa Indonesia, confident to communicate in English. Balinese is advantageous.
- Report writing and data analysis.
- Demonstrated experience in google docs/sheets, excel.
- University degree or a minimum of 2 years relevant industry experience.
- Empathetic and culturally aware.
Bonus (not essential, but desired)
- Experience in managing small-medium scale textile production
- Living or able to relocate to the surrounding North Bali area (Amed, Tulamben, Tejakula, Kintamani, Muntigununung).
Working hours
Flexible working days
40 hours per week
Can commit to working onsite in Muntigunung 3-5 days per week
