An exciting opportunity has\ncome up to join Yayasan Borneo Nature Indonesia (BNF Indonesia) to take overall\nresponsibility for managing BNF's Sebangau Programme research activities\nimplementation in the Sebangau National Park (BTNS). This is a high profile,\nrewarding role that will involve working with local research partners, the BNF\nResearch Division, Indonesian Research Coordinators, and field staff to deliver\nmonthly and annual research objectives.

Scientifically rigorous\nresearch is at the heart of effective, sustainable conservation strategies and\nunderpins all of BNF's conservation efforts. BNF is proud to be recognised as a\nregional Centre of Excellence for tropical ecology research in partnership with\nBTNS. By joining us as Sebangau Programme Research Manager, you will play a\npivotal role in coordination research implementation of primatological,\nbiodiversity/wildlife monitoring, and tropical ecology projects.\n\n
Place of Work: The role is expected to be based 80% of the\ntime in the field sites/LAHG camp for consecutive days, and 20% in the BNF\noffice in Palangka Raya city; balancing work priorities according to monthly\nschedule and coordination needs.
Role and responsibilities:\n\n
1. You will be\nresponsible for the effective coordination of research and wildlife monitoring\nimplementation activities within the Sebangau landscape. This will imply:\n\n
a. Ensuring\nthe overall smooth field day to day operations of the BNF research programme\nwithin the Sebangau landscape and identify and implement improvements wherever\npossible. This encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including\nlogistical oversight, field scheduling, equipment needs, staff and data\nmanagement. \n\n
b. \nEnsuring\na close communication between yourself, the of the Sebangau Programme,\nrelevant BNF Research Division scientific staff (e.g., Primate Scientist, Cat\nScientist, Ecologist, etc) and BNF International Scientific Advisory Board to\nensure their instructions are delivered, so that annual research targets are\nmet and monthly work schedules support achievement of these targets.\n\n
c. \nWorking\nwith the of the Sebangau Programme & BNF Scientists to develop and\nimplement annual workplans as well as training programmes for the Sebangau\nResearch Team and BTNS staff, thus allowing individuals to build capacity in\ntheir current role and progress in their career.\n\n
d. \nOverall\nresponsibility for ensuring all data is accurately and backed up\nregularly; raw data lated and stored properly; all research equipment\nmaintained in good condition, repaired, or replaced when necessary following\nprocurement procedures; inventory of equipment kept up to date and synchronised\nwith finance team.\n\n
e. Discuss and\npresent to BNF scientist and Scientific Advisory Board new potential research\nstudies in the field of biodiversity conservation and natural resource\nmanagement within the Sebangau landscape, work with BNF scientist on research\ndevelopment (in particular feeding back from BTNS and other partners),\npublications and attend symposiums and conferences when needed.\n\n
2. \nYou\nwill also be responsible for the correct financial management of theLAHG\nand Sebangau Research Division, following the financial processes and\nprojection/reporting procedures in place. Manage a cash float issued to you and\nensure staff under your management manage and report their cash advances\nproperly.\n\n
3. \nAct\nas Line Manager for the LAHG team, with a total of 20 staff members including\nresearch coordinators, field assistants, cooks and all other staff; dealing\nwith all staffing issues that arise liaising with HR as required, checking on\nthe team's welfare at work to maintain a good team cohesion and act as their\nrepresentative to support the team within the whole BNF organisation.\n\n
4. \nLiaising with external partners including\nBTNS, CIMTROP, and local/international Universities as needed. Coordinate camp\nlogistics with CIMTROP and their assigned camp manager. Report any issues that\nrequire attention by CIMTROP, including maintenance and repair of facilities,\nprovision of medical & safety supplies, and so on.\n\n
5. Supporting the International Visits\nCoordinator for the coordination of Local/International Visits, including\nsupporting upcoming expeditions and/or field courses, volunteer expeditions,\ntour-groups, and school visits, including pre-expedition logistical planning,\nvalidating with the field team the schedule of activities, supporting field\ncourses in partnership with BNF Scientists and the International Visits\ncoordinator and providing training opportunities to local and international\nstudents as well as facilitating the support needed to implement their\nresearch. Support the Education Division to ensure all joint education\nactivities such as field visits by schools and communities proceed smoothly and\nsuccessfully, ensuring that all safety protocols and procedures are in place\nand appropriate field staff assigned to support these activities.\n\n
6. Responsible\nfor the improvement of all standards for the LAHG/other camp management,\nincluding sustainability, waste management, health & safety, working\nefficiency and high-quality of facilities for visitors.\n\n
7. Work together with Communications\nDivision to ensure a regular stream of good quality photographs/videos, written\nmaterials, website and social media articles and similar are produced in order\nto promote the Sebangau research.\n\n
Qualifications:\n\n
1. Master's\ndegree in environmental science, Forestry, Biology, Primatology, or related\ndisciplines. (Bachelor's degree holders with relevant work experience will also\nbe considered).\n\n
2. Good spoken English and Indonesian languages\n\n
3. Demonstrated\nexperience in research or conservation projects in tropical forests, with a minimum\nof 1 year of experience.\n\n
4. Demonstrated\nability to coordinate field research and wildlife monitoring activities\neffectively.\n\n
5. Strong\norganizational skills to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.\n\n
6. Excellent\ncommunication skills to facilitate close coordination with programs,\nresearch division staff, and advisory boards.\n\n
7. Ability to\ndevelop and implement annual work plans, training programs, and research\ndevelopment initiatives.\n\n\n\n\n\n
