Legal Counsel & Business Partner - Immigration Sector

Role Responsibility

The key purpose of the role is to support the Chief Legal Officer, Europe and be a legal Business Partner to the Immigration sector by delivering proactive and quality legal services which protect the interests of the business and enables them to grow sustainably and operate with an acceptable risk profile.

The Legal Counsel will provide and enable value add legal, regulatory, ethics & governance support which is aligned to the sustainable achievement of the European strategic priorities.

Key accountabilities:

• Serve as a subject matter expert and Business Partner to the Immigration sector by delivering proactive and high-quality legal services throughout the business lifecycle.
• Promote awareness and understanding of relevant legal, policy, regulatory, ethical risks and governance requirements within the Immigration sector.
• Business focused legal advice and guidance on complex contractual issues, negotiations, and transactions.
• Support bid teams and governance forums on legal, contractual and risk aspects of bids including assurance of contract reviews, risk assessments and other legal and contractual aspects of bidding and advice and guidance on public procurement regulations, policies and procedures.
• Document terms of agreement with partners and subcontractors (i.e., NDAs, Teaming Agreements, Consortium and Subcontracting Agreements). Ensure appropriate flow down of terms into Supplier Contracts in collaboration with Procurement teams.
• Develop and deliver contracts & commercial awareness training/workshops.
• Proactively identify changes and developments in relevant laws, regulations, government policies and guidance notes and work with colleagues to assess and manage their impact on the Immigration sector.
• Legal guidance in relation to internal and external corporate investigations into matters arising within the Immigration sector.
• Oversee labour law case management and provide guidance on complex employment claims. Manage external employment counsel engagements as cost effectively as possible.
• Provide support as directed by the Chief Legal Officer, Europe to due diligence projects or acquisitions or divestments or other special projects relating to the Immigration sector or wider Europe Division.

Successful Candidate

Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualifications:

• Qualified lawyer with a Master’s degree in law and have at least 8 years legal experience in an international environment.
• You have a proven track record of handling a varied and challenging caseload. 
• Good understanding of legal, ethical and compliance matters, legal management and complex contractual constructs.
• Experience of and expertise in public sector contracting highly desirable.
• Demonstrable commercial acumen and business orientated approach.
• Ability to communicate and build strong relationships across a diverse community of stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
• Persuasive, concise and clear verbal and written communicator.
• Ability to work with changing priorities and thrive in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
• Inclusive, approachable, consultative and enabling nature.
• Team player and at the same time ability to work autonomously.

Languages:

• Fluent in English and German
