Position Overview: The Restaurant Assistant Manager plays a critical role in the daily operations of a restaurant, ensuring smooth and efficient functioning while upholding high standards of customer service, cleanliness, and quality. This role requires a combination of leadership, management, and hospitality skills to support the in achieving business objectives and maintaining a positive dining experience for guests.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Management:
- Assist the restaurant manager in overseeing day-to-day operations, including opening and closing procedures, staffing, and inventory management.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, food safety standards, and company policies.
- Monitor and maintain restaurant cleanliness and organization, including dining areas, kitchen, and restrooms.
- Handle customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints promptly and professionally, striving to resolve issues to the satisfaction of guests.
Team Leadership and Training:
- Provide leadership and direction to restaurant staff, including servers, hosts/hostesses, and kitchen crew.
- Assist in recruiting, hiring, and training new employees, ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members to encourage growth and improvement.
- Foster a positive work environment by promoting teamwork, communication, and mutual respect among staff members.
Customer Service Excellence:
- Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service, greeting guests, and addressing their needs courteously and promptly.
- Monitor service standards and ensure that all staff members adhere to established service guidelines.
- Handle reservations, seating arrangements, and special requests with efficiency and attention to detail.
- Proactively seek feedback from guests and use it to identify areas for improvement in service and operations.
Financial Management:
- Assist in monitoring and controlling restaurant expenses, such as labor costs, food and beverage costs, and operating supplies.
- Help to develop and implement strategies to maximize revenue and profitability, such as upselling techniques and cost-saving measures.
- Contribute to the development of budgets and financial forecasts, providing input based on operational insights and trends.
Administrative Duties:
- Assist with administrative tasks, including scheduling staff shifts, managing payroll, and maintaining accurate records.
- Prepare reports on key performance indicators, sales figures, and other relevant metrics for review by management.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of inventory and supplies, and negotiate favorable terms when possible.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a supervisory or management role in the restaurant industry is preferred.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire team members.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a focus on customer service.
- Solid understanding of restaurant operations, including food preparation, service standards, and health regulations.
- Proficiency in computer applications, such as point-of-sale systems and Microsoft Office suite.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Food safety certification and/or management training is a plus.
